Michael Jackson: The Making of A Genius 1962-1969

 Michael Jackson's Musical Career 1962-1969

In 1962,  Joseph Jackson, father of Michael along with sons, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy, created and formed a singing group known as the Jackson Brothers.  Except for Michael, Marlon, and Randy, the rest of the brothers would sing at family functions and supermarket openings in their hometown of Gary, Indiana

In December of 1963, Michael's singing debut began at his school's recital at the age of five.  He sung, "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "The Sound Of Music"

In March of 1969, The Jackson 5, signs contract with Motown.  Motown CEO Berry Gordy sends the group to Detroit, Michigan to work with producer Bobby Taylor.  At the time, a few members of the Jackson 5 including Michael were recording soul compilations from Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Tops, etc.

August 1969,  moving from Detroit, Michigan to Los Angeles, California, Berry Gordy formed a group called The Corporation to handle the Jackson 5 recordings.  Michael Jackson was barely 11 years old at the time.

In October of 1969, The Jackson 5 give their first public performance at the Daisy Club in Beverley Hills where Diana Ross introduces her self as discovering the Jackson 5. Originally, Bobby Taylor and Gladys Knight, discovered  The Jackson 5. Shortly after, the group opens at the television variety show the Hollywood Palace Show.
